摘要:

Some people think that governments should pay the course fees for students who want to go to university. Do you agree or disagree?

In the present age, most of the middle school graduates go to the university to continue their higher education. But weather the education fee should be paid by government or individuals has provoked heated debate. Some people insist that the individuals should afford the fees, while others believe that the government should cover the expense. Personally, I am in favor of the latter view.

It is obvious that paying for the students’ college education fee engenders numerous merits. Firstly, the government has the obligation to give every college student the equal right of education. If the government shoulders the fee, more qualified students can go to university without worrying about the education fees which are a great burden for poor families. Statistics shows that every year in China, 1.6% qualified graduates gave up the chance to go to the university because of the poverty. Further, students could concentrate on their study rather than go for a part-time job, which would waste of their time. Lastly, more students would consider going to the university if they do not have to pay tuition fee. As a result, the country will benefit the more skilled and intelligent workers. As a matter of fact, the more effective and intelligent workers would contribute to the society and economical development.

Admittedly, there are some disadvantages if the government supports the students’ study. The main reason for this is that the government would allocate a large sum of money to do this, which imposes government’s financial burden. Clearly, this problem could be solved with the development of the national economy. For instance, some of the developed countries, such as German, Norway and Finland had waive the tuition fee for local student.

In summary, I would concede that the government covers the higher education fee may have some shortcomings, especially for the developing countries. Despite that, the government should do its best to cover the education fee, at least, provide non-interest loans to support poor students. Education is a long term project and is in everyone’s interest. The government would do more things to promote it.
