This kind of argumentative essay requires clear thinking, preparation, and a concise (non-waffly) writing style. It is not very difficult to cultivate these things; it just takes some time and effort.

A. Argumentation （正反類）

B．Discussion（Report）報(bào)告文
Question & Possible approach to answering it :
(1) 利弊題（Advantages or disadvantages）
Evaluate the theory…..
Critically evaluate the theory…..
What are the strengths and weaknesses of ….
Present the positive aspects of the topic & theory (strong arguments, evidence that supports it, people that agree with it) and also the negative aspects of the topic & theory (weak arguments, evidence that contradicts it, people that disagree with it)
(2) 兩種選擇權(quán)衡題（TWO options）
Compare and contrast Topic A and Topic B
Offer a very brief overview of both topics. Then for the majority of your answer take the two topics or theories and looks for common features and ways in which they are different
給出兩個(gè)對立的事物或者一個(gè)事物對立的兩個(gè)方面，要求考生支持一方并進(jìn)行說明。
（1）Some people think that parents should plan their children’s leisure time carefully. Other people believe that children should decide for themselves how to spend their free time, which idea do you agree with? Give reasons for your choice.

2009年可能出現(xiàn)的非主流類型
1、給出兩個(gè)對立事物或一個(gè)事物對立的兩個(gè)方面，要求考生說明二者為什么不同或比較它們的優(yōu)缺點(diǎn)，并給出理由。Some students participate in school activities such as clubs and sports. Other students do not take part in such activities because they spend more time on their studies. Tell why do you think the two groups of students spend their time differently. Which type of student do you prefer to be? Explain why.
2、給出一些選項(xiàng)，要求考生選擇其中一個(gè)或幾個(gè)并予以說明。Newspapers contain many information topics such as sports, current events, business and entertainment. Which topic do you like to read most often? Give reasons to explain your answer.
3、 要求考生另外選擇論點(diǎn)并給予說明。
Inventions such as eyeglasses and the sewing machine have had an important effect on our lives. Choose another invention that you think is important. Give specific reasons for your choice.
Sometimes it is fun to think of living in another time and place. If you could experience a different time and place, what time and what place would you choose? Use reasons and specific details to support your answer.
