在滿眼都是字母的文章中，數(shù)字的出現(xiàn)異常顯眼，恰如萬綠叢中一點紅，正因為如此，數(shù)字通常都會成為最理想的關(guān)鍵詞之一。
舉例如下：Q10 / Test 2 / Cambridge IV:
題目：Do the following statements agree with the views of the writer in Reading Passage 1? （Y / N / NG）
10. The Navajo language will die out because it currently has too few speakers.
該句為帶有原因狀語從句的復(fù)合句，判斷正誤時，需分2步走，先判斷主句，若主句是 N 或NG中的一個，那么就以此為答案，無需再判斷從句了；但若主句判斷為 Y, 那么還需繼續(xù)對從句加以判斷，從句最終的 Y / N /NG 就是題目的答案。
主句中The Navajo language will die out 的內(nèi)容已知曉，在文章首段的 Line 3: … the native language is dying … (此處的native 指 the native Navojo, 前文有述)，那么要判斷的就是從句了。從其中的內(nèi)容應(yīng)該讀出關(guān)鍵信息是 too few speakers. 這里包含了一點和數(shù)字相關(guān)的信息few, 換言之，文中有可能會涉及到數(shù)字。

由題目中出現(xiàn)的數(shù)字40，000 可以定位到原文中page 17 的第二段Line 4:
Johnson wrote the definitions of over 40,000 words, and illustrated their many meanings…
返回到句首:
The work was immense: filling about eighty large notebooks (and without a library to hand),
再由題目分析得知：所需答案為可數(shù)名詞，并且是Johnson 在編撰詞典的工作中不具備的（did not … available）,而文中括號里‘without a library to hand’正好契合了該信息點，還有a 這個信號詞進(jìn)一步確定，答案就非它莫屬了：library
