1.I am fixing to go out
fix這個(gè)詞在美國南方真的很常見，記得我第一次聽到老外這么跟我說，是在我去賓館接他的時(shí)候，我的直覺反應(yīng)就是他正在修理什么東西，但實(shí)際上fix在這里的用法是正準(zhǔn)備要出門的意思，也就相當(dāng)于I am about to leave.
同樣這句話，舉一反三，用在其他場合：
I"m fixing to go to the cinema now.
Jack is fixing to go to the swimming pool.
The president is fixing to give a speech.
是不是很實(shí)用？
2.leave someone holding the bag
意思是“讓人代為負(fù)責(zé)收尾”。從字面上看，他的意思是說留下某人收拾包裹，所以很形象的比喻為“讓某人做收尾工作”。需要注意的是這個(gè)片語中hold始終使用的是ing形式。
例句：
After having had dinner, my girlfriend always leaves me holding the bag. I must sweep the floor and wash the dishes.
晚飯過后，我的女友總是讓我做收尾工作。我必須拖地和洗碗。
3.She is a big gossip.
gossip指的就是八卦新聞，但它也可以拿來形容一個(gè)人很八卦。所以She is a big gossip.就是說她是個(gè)八卦夫人。
或是你也可以說，She is gossipy.按中文講意思是她是一個(gè)廣播電臺(tái)。這種說法在美國倒是不常見，反而是有另一種說法和這個(gè)意思很接近――She is an information bureau. 她是一個(gè)情報(bào)局。
4.as plain as the nose on one"s face
plain本來就有“簡單清楚，明白樸素的”之意。所以從字面上看這個(gè)片語的意思就是“像某人臉上突起的鼻子一樣清晰明白的”，當(dāng)然這個(gè)意思就是我們常說的“很明顯的”之意了，相當(dāng)于it"s very clear that...
例句：
He is very nervous. That is as plain as the nose on his face, because he stands awkwardly in front of the microphone for several minutes and says nothing.
很顯然地，他十分緊張,因?yàn)樗邴溈孙L(fēng)前局促不安地站了好幾分鐘而沒有說一句話。
